Johnny seemed a little better today. His WBC has continued to drop, and as of his 4p labs is down to 6.5! He still has two more doses of Clofarabine, so we are looking forward to his WBC going to zero, or very close to zero, by the end of the weekend. The Hem/Oc doctors have decided to wait until Johnny is done with the Clofarbine before they start up the spinal taps again. His clotting factors are still high (which means he has a harder time clotting), and the doctors would like to see them come down a little to lessen the chance that they will get a contaminated sample of spinal fluid. There is still a chance that his spine is clear, but we won't know until they are able to get a good LP. Dr. Kilbourn would also like to get through the Clofarabine before doing the LP just because this chemo is so strong. Johnny seems to be tolerating it ok, but it's still wiping him out. I agree that it would be better not to hit him with too many things at once even though the blasts in his spinal fluid need to be addressed.
Even though it is very difficult to have visitors in ICU our friend Jim T. and Johnny's best buddy, Heath, have been up to the hospital. Johnny's been pretty out of it, but I think he has enjoyed listening to "skate" talk. When those guys are in his room he tries pretty hard to stay awake so he doesn't miss anything. Jim even showed Johnny some ideas for future products and clothing, and asked for his opinion. Jim was able to tell between a good shrug and a bad shrug pretty quickly.
Overall Johnny looked a little better than yesterday. He doesn't seem to feel much better yet, but he might not until he gets to the other side of the Clofarabine, and has a little time to rest.
Day four starts at 10:30p tonight.

Thank you both for keeping us posted on everything. I know that that's the point of the blog, I just wanted to say I appreciated it. Johnny sounds like such a fighter, but then again -- would we expect anything less; he is a "Romano" afterall! You can do it Johnny, you're almost there...It sounds like Jim T. and Health talking to him made his day! That's awesome! Thank you guys!! <:-))))
