DIRECTED DONATIONS

My sister checked with the Blood Center and Johnny is already in the system -- his MRN# won't work, but if you say your donating for Jonathan Michael Romano DOB 4/23/98, it shouldn't be a problem!   He just finished a bag a plasma (FFP -fresh frozen plasma) and is getting ready for what will hopefully be his last bag of random platelets for a long time!  Usually if there could be a potential for reactions the doctor's will hold off on transfusing, but he is at a critical level right now (13 -- with active bleeding) so we just have to be prepared for what might happen.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DONATING!

Today is my 41st birthday and I could not have asked for a better gift in the entire world than to pull up your blog this morning and to see that your WBC count is down to 50...WooHoo!!!! I did also ask for a Johnny Romano skateboard. Don't know if that wish has come true yet or not. Stay strong, keep fighting SuperJohnny!

I checked with Carter Blood Care here in Dallas and said that I could donate there and they could "credit Johnny's account" in Houston - I'll see if there is any other news I can find out about it tomorrow. Happy thoughts coming your way from up north.

Johnny's got some skateboard family out here in California that want to donate too. Anyone have any idea if we can donate directly to him from out here? I've got a crew ready to go as soon as we find out.

Johnny,
You don't know us, but my husband and 9 year old son participated in the Pier Pandemonium skate benefit for Johnny on Go Skateboarding Day here in Huntington Beach. We just wanted you to know that there are a whole lot of people out here that are praying for you and wish we could do more! I know you would give up any visit or phone call from your favorite skateboarder to be out there skating yourself!

To Johhny's parents, I check this blog on a daily basis (sometimes many times a day!) checking up on Johnny. You two have amazing strength to hold up through this and I applaud you for that. Johnny is a very lucky boy to have such a strong parental unit. He seems to have gotten his super human strength from the both of you! If we can do anything for you, please let us know.

Well, I have learned to always have kleenex with me when I check your blog and the comments that are posted. What a blessing to have devoted parents, family, friends and strangers who go the extra mile to support Johnny in this battle by whatever means necessary. Jesus smiles and the angels rejoice. There is a brighter day coming and Johnny will no longer be in pain but will be a testimony of the will to live, and an example of hope for everyone in their own battles against this dread disease called cancer. I would love to give blood, but I am fighting cancer, too. You are tough as nails, little guy, and I am inspired. Johnny, someday soon I will meet you and we will slide a couple waves in Surfside or G-Town together. I pray for you everyday and will not settle for anything but a full recovery, and for you mom and dad, I pray for an endless outpouring of faith, hope, and determination from the very throne of The Most High GOD to fill your hearts and minds. Peace be with you.

Hi Johnny and family,

You have the best of the best taking care of you! Dr. Kilburn was the very first "doctor" George saw at TCH--at that point, she was still in training, a Fellow. She got George on the right track and Dr. Dreyer has been his clinic doctor for three years.

Everyone loves you and prayers for you are coming from all over.
Hang in there; you are one tough young man as are all the members of your family.

I am struck by so many emotions. I sit here weeping and at the same time, so very inspired. Johnny, I have never met you but what an example you set for all of us. Keep up the fight and The Lord will provide for you and your wonderful family.....and your "extended family" that seems to be growing daily. I pray so hard for y'all for hope and love and some relief. They say God only gives you what you can handle. He obviously thinks pretty highly of the Romanos!!!! Y'all take care and our prayers are with you every day!!!!

Y'all are awesome! There's nothing I can say differently than the many, many others who have expressed their love for you. You have a whole world of support and prayers behind you and y'all are going to come through this even stronger - though I don't know how it's possible.

Keep fighting it, Johnny and you'll have chicks checking you out at recess in no time! I got my first platelet donation completed for y'all and am planning more.

Blessing to all of you.

Today I donated platelets for Johnny. For someone that doesn’t like needles, but then again who does & laying there for 2.5 hours –all I can say is he is worth every second. After briefly speaking with Julie this AM – I realized that me donating platelets was nothing compared to what Johnny has already endured and is still going through. As some of you who know me, although I'm a fabulous story teller, I promise I’ll keep this one short & sweet. I just felt a few of these things were worth sharing from today.

When I walked into the Blood Center today on La Concha, I told them I was there to donate, I had to fill out the appropriate paperwork etc., The ladies at the front proceeded to check me in & once realized that it was for Johnny Romano, they smiled & said that they knew Johnny & he was a sweet kid. One of the ladies had a picture of Johnny & Julie behind the desk. I smiled & teared up simultaneously.

The guy who did my paperwork came & got me, went through the questions, it came up who I was donating for & what I doing that day:Johnny Romano/Platelets. I thought the guy was going to fall out of his chair! He said “well I’m Milton Boise!”,“will you tell Johnny that I remember exactly who he is”? “He was wearing his pink shirt at the mall and he was helping me recruit people to give blood”. “Gosh, I wonder if he remembers me?” He asked how I knew him, etc….Milton donates platelets; he will be donating next week in Johnny’s name. You can imagine of me having the same reaction as before….

We finished up the paperwork & I was sent over to my chair. Dexter was the other gentlemen who remembered Johnny from the Commit for Life fund-raisers. He was the one who drew my blood, I got to watch a movie, got a few blankets to get snuggled up in, but I have to say what helped me the most with this first time experience is giving platelets – besides everyone’s kindness and patience with me (of course) was when I first got in the chair, they gave me a picture of Johnny & Julie to hold. So, when/if I got sad or felt that I couldn’t squeeze the ball anymore (b/c it could get tough doing that continuously for 2.5 hours), I just looked down at him & there was no doubt that I wasn’t going to finish. I did it. I’m going on Saturday morning & again on Thursday. Apparently, you can go back and donate platelets every 72-hours, which is wonderful considering he is going through these so quickly.

Last, but definitely not least, a girlfriend of mine runs for a running club for the Marathon Oil Group who supports the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She texted me latter part of today, saying that she received an email from her mentor regarding their “teammate” of whom they are honoring, who they are all running for, doing the fundraisers for, and their training for is in the hospital and needs their support by donating platelets ---- their “honored Teammate is Johnny Romano”.

Stay Stong Johnny - You're Our Hero!

We Love You, De, Aunt Sugie & Uncle Sig!
