April 23, 1998 was a very special day in our lives. Our second little boy was born (who we were positive was going to be a baby girl) and our family was almost complete -- until 4 years later when Sophie was born. Now on your 11th birthday, our family is incomplete again, because we don't have Johnny with us anymore.
Happy Birthday little guy! We miss you and hope you are having a blast in heaven skating the perfect bowl, or surfing the perfect wave, breaking only for Chick-Fil-A nuggets and drinking massive amounts of Dr. Pepper. It really sucks without you baby boy.
I love you so much,
Mom

Dear Johnny,
Today is your 11th birthday and seven months ago today that the angles came down from Heaven and swept you away. The number 23 always seemed to be a pivotal number in your life. You were born on the 23rd of April and you died on the 23rd of September. Even though you are no longer in the form where we can touch and hold you, you hold a very special place in all of our hearts. Your memory will always live on with so many things named after you. The Johnny Romano Skate Park in Galveston, the Johnny Romano Skate Jam for Make-A-Wish and your foundation to name a few. For a child so young to have touched the hearts of so many people in your extremely short lifetime is truly remarkable. You loved little children, especially your little sister Sophie, but you could hold a great conversation with adults of all ages. I always admired the special bond that you and your brother Joey had. It was as though you could read each others thoughts. A while ago when I was out in the country with friends sitting around the fire pit on a dark night someone said “There goes a shooting star,” and I thought to myself that it must be you skateboarding across the vast celestial sky on what must be a most magnificent skateboard.
Love,
Grandmommie

Happy Birthday Johnny!!!! SKate sesh for JOhnny today at BlackBox....
Have a good session in heaven man. From another skater who knows how much a shredder likes to skate. This is truely inspirational to see a fellow skater like you stepping up to skating like you did.
From G-town to H-town to A-town to the Pacific NW, folks are drawing strength from Johnny's life and from your family's strength. Never forget Johnny and Ashlyn! G-town is da place now that Johnny's skatepark truly means "roll forever!" Keep shredding, making art out of those carves. Art is infinite, art is love.
Much love on Johnny's b-day! FOR REAL.

Hello Julie and MIke,
I have read all your blogs from the day you found out about Johnny's diagnosis and it literally touches my heart. My son Bryson was diagnosed with A L L with MLL arrangement March 14, 2009 see Bryson is just now going to be 11months on the 4 of May. We have been at TCH since diagnosis and will be for the next 3 months. I am trying to share my story and meet other parents that have been through similar situations.
I also wanted to say Happy Birthday to your boy and I am sure he is having one heck of a part up in heaven. I am going to subscribe to your blog if that is alright and follow you on twitter.
